Super easy! Painting a Daisy step-by step. Really simple tiny painting using a real oils and a palette knife

This tutorial aims to demystify the world of oil painting, proving that it's not as intimidating as it may seem. You'll be creating a small yet charming painting featuring a single daisy, using genuine oil paints and a real palette knife.

The primary goal is to take that initial step into impasto painting, acquainting yourself with the palette knife and the materials while enjoying the process. Even though we're working on a small scale, the experience will provide the confidence to venture into more complex subjects using this technique.

These paintings aren't meant to be serious artworks but rather a means to connect with the materials and the palette knife. Consider them as stepping stones, and once you feel comfortable, we can progress to another painting featuring a daisy meadow.

For this tutorial, you'll need the following materials:

  • Oil paints (Van Gogh, Cobra, or another brand of your choice):

    • Titanium white

    • Ultramarine

    • Cadmium Yellow/Azo yellow

    • Burnt Umber

    • Olive green/Viridian green

    • Azo red medium

  • Palette: I recommend a tear-off palette for its convenience.

  • Palette knife: Opt for a soft one; you can test it on a canvas, and it should bend. A curved shape is versatile and highly useful.

  • Small canvas, oil paper, or panel (8 x 8 inches, 20 x 20 cm)
